Rizza Islam

Rizza Islam was born on March 17th, 1990 in the Richland Farms area of Compton, CA. He is the youngest of 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. Growing up in the city of Compton, he was constantly forced to confront the daily plight of an inner city youth trying to make it with meager resources. Gang violence, drugs, and peer pressure were an everyday occurrence where he grew up. As a child he went to Winnie Mandela children’s learning village where he learned traditional African morals & principals along with basic school subjects. He went to Fort Irwin for middle school and for highschool he was a student at opportunities for learning in Long Beach, CA. Rizza Islam attended Compton college majoring in political science and also studied briefly at Hubbard college of administration. At the age of 9 after witnessing the condition of the people in the community Rizza decided that he wanted to do something about it. He became a student at the World Literacy Crusade receiving tutoring on his homework in 1999. He was asked one day to help a young student with their homework and he agreed. After helping this student with their work he felt empowered at seeing that his help was effective and from that day his purpose has been to save humanity and change the world! Since the start of his humanitarian efforts he was working as a tutor in the World Literacy Crusade at 11 years old. By the time he was 13 he had become the director of language arts whereby he had nearly 20 tutors under his belt whom he had trained.  He had worked daily for years until he became a course supervisor where he was responsible for delivering services to an entire course room that fluctuated between 30 – 60 students a day! Students who were parents, highschool students, drug addicts, students fresh out of prison, students on probation, students in college and throughout the years at least 2 students from every gang in L.A, Compton, Watts, South Gate, Lynwood and Long Beach! All of this while being younger than nearly 90% of them! By his 17th birthday Rizza had become the director of public services where he now would schedule and meet with teachers, counselors, probation officers, foster care providers, group home directors, principals, judges and elected officials to promote services that were being delivered that helped human beings in multiple ways! All of this was a great success and he had helped tens of thousands of people! However, it wasn’t enough. He wanted to help more! So he continued to work at the world literacy Crusade 5 sometimes 6 days a week 9a.m to 6p.m. He also volunteered at the Y.M.C.A where he primarily worked with children every year at camp. He had been so successful at helping so many people that the Y.M.C.A chose him to speak at their International “Martin Luther Kings brotherhood breakfast” at the Westin Bonaventure hotel where he spoke in front of over 3,500 people of which more than 200 of them were mayors, elected officials and/or law enforcement. Rizza Islam applied and was accepted into the “Mellineum momentum leadership development institute” where he along with 200 others went through a rigorous 6 month leadership bootcamp where over 70% were degree holding college graduates! At the end of the 6 month’s  only 15 people had graduated and Rizza was placed in the top TWO all while holding NO college degrees.

By the time Rizza had accomplished these things he had become the international ambassador of the World Literacy Crusade where he now represented over 36 chapters in 6 countries including Ghana, Africa where Isaac Hayes (who was the international spokesperson at the time) was asked by princess Asie Ocansey to build a World literacy Crusade in their country to help with the literacy level of the children. He, along with the Founder (Rev. Alfreddie Johnson) and the executive director (Dr. Hanan Islam) flew to Africa and built a school where it was filled with books, and where the children could go to learn and study! As a result, Isaac Hayes was made a king in Ghana as a thank you for what World Literacy Crusade had done for them and their people!

In 2008 Rizza was flown to Washington D.C where he represented The World Literacy Crusade to meet with then presidential candidate Barack Obama at the congressional Black caucus.

Rizza has gained much notoriety and has received over a dozen awards from well known organizations such as; The YMCA, Youth For Human Rights international for educating over 2,000 inner city youth about their rights as a human being. Awarded the Stephanie Hamilton “Community spirit” award by the Ebony Awakening Foundation for saving the lives of more than 15,000 inner city youth & adults.  Awarded by he Mayor & City Council of Compton California for graduating from the Millineum momentum leadership development institute as the only individual who completed the program that was NOT a college graduate  to name a few. All received for educating & mentoring inner city youth in urban communities. He has delivered classes on Drug Education, Life Skills, Communication skills, Anger Management, Health, Study Skills, Parenting, human rights and so much more.
